It's ten years since we first talked about The Trench Theory as a way to make sense of our times. The Trench Theory says that all virtue can be divided into two broad groups--The Hard and the Soft. The Hard Virtues are favoured by conservatives and are male coded. The Soft Virtues are favoured by liberals and are female coded.
The problem for the West is that since the cultural "love revolution" of 1967, we have been attempting to build our society upon the female, soft, liberal values only. In the process, we have been demonising the male, hard, conservative values. And this is leading us to a point of far left extremism.
A few days ago, for the very first time, I heard the concept being echoed by author, Helen Andrews, at a conservative conference. This is exciting, because if we are beginning to understand the problem, we can finally begin to create the solutions...
