Jesus told his disciples that when it comes to prayer, "don't repeat your words again and again as the pagans do." Other translations say, "do not heap up empty phrases" or "do not use vain repetitions." It's true that many world religions rely on mantras and rituals in a bid to communicate with God but Jesus says, "don't be like them." Instead, we are to come to God as a Father, ready to talk to him with honesty, truth and authenticity.
